Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Lagos State governor and former Minister of Power, Babatunde Raji Fashola, SAN, will lead the launch of a major new publication focused on Nigeria’s renewable energy landscape.
The book, “Renewable Energy: Law and Policy in Nigeria, a Crosscutting Perspective”, is authored by Assistant Professor Bitrus Joseph Bulama of the American University of Nigeria School of Law and is scheduled for unveiling on Wednesday, February 11, 2026, in Abuja.
The launch is expected to draw a high-level audience of political leaders, legal professionals, diplomats and policy experts, underscoring the rising national and global interest in sustainable energy development and the legal structures required to support it.
Reacting ahead of the event, the Chairman of the Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria and Senior Editor at Channel Network Afrique, Comrade Idehai Frederick, described the book as a timely and important contribution to Nigeria’s development discourse, particularly at a moment when energy reform and sustainability are gaining renewed attention.
“This is a meticulously researched work that arrives at a pivotal moment in our national development.
“We call on the Federal Government, the diplomatic community, and global policy makers to not only support this publication but to actively adopt its insights for the benefit of the energy sector,” Frederick said.
He further urged authorities to ensure the book becomes part of Nigeria’s academic and policy infrastructure, stressing the need to connect legal scholarship with real-world energy challenges.
“I strongly urge the Nigerian Government to integrate this book into the nation’s academic curriculum. It is essential that our researchers and future legal minds have access to such crosscutting perspectives to drive innovation and sustainability,” he said.
The book examines renewable energy through the combined lenses of law, policy and practical implementation. It provides guidance for lawmakers, regulators and investors in a country widely regarded as rich in renewable energy resources but still struggling to fully harness them.Frederick also called on the media to give the book wide coverage, noting that its relevance extends beyond Nigeria.
“The insights contained in this work are for the overall benefit of not just the country, but the world at large,” he said.
With Atiku and Fashola jointly presenting the book, the launch is expected to spark renewed conversation around energy reform, sustainability and the legal foundations needed to power Nigeria’s transition to cleaner energy.
